What Scout collects, how your farm data is used, how AI helps produce your advice, and the controls you have over all of it.
Last updated: Not yet finalized
About this notice
Scout is an AI farmhand for growers. This notice explains what information Scout collects when you use the Scout app and website, how that information is used, and the choices you have. It covers using the product itself.
Scout is currently offered as a beta. We may update how the product works, and we will update this notice as we do.
Information Scout collects
Scout collects the information needed to advise you on your operation:
- Account details — your name, email, and sign-in information.
- Your farm data — the fields and boundaries you add, soil samples, crop and application records, and the questions, notes, and photos you share with Scout.
- Location, on mobile — when you turn on Field Alerts, so Scout can tell which field you are standing in and attach your notes and photos to the right place. This is optional and you control it.
- Camera and microphone, on mobile — only when you choose to take a photo or speak to Scout. Scout does not access them otherwise.
- Technical and usage data — device and app information and diagnostics that keep Scout reliable.
How Scout uses your information
Your information is used to run Scout for you — not to profile you for advertising.
- To read your fields and produce agronomic answers and recommendations.
- To run and secure your account.
- To send the notifications you have turned on (such as Field Alerts and Lookout warnings).
- To keep Scout working reliably and to improve it.
How AI processes your data
Scout uses artificial intelligence to turn your fields, questions, and records into answers. To do this, your data is processed by advanced AI models operated by trusted third-party providers on our behalf. Scout checks the numbers those models produce against its own agronomy before presenting them to you.
These providers process your data only to deliver the service to you and act under agreements that limit how they may use it. [REDLINE: name the current AI provider(s) (e.g. Anthropic) and confirm their input-retention / no-training-on-your-data terms before this is published — the brain is vendor-swappable, so keep this list maintained.]
AI is a tool to help you decide — it does not replace your judgment or your trusted advisors.
Device permissions
On mobile, Scout asks for a device permission only when a feature needs it, and explains why first. You can decline any of them and still use Scout, and you can change your mind anytime in your device settings.
- Location — to detect which of your fields you are near, for Field Alerts. Background location is used only for these field-proximity alerts.
- Camera — to snap a photo for Scout to look at.
- Microphone — to let you talk to Scout.
- Notifications — to send the alerts you have turned on.
How your information is shared
Scout does not sell what it remembers about you, and your Scout memory is used only to personalize your experience.
If an operation (such as your co-op or retailer) set up Scout for your farm, they can see your fields and history as part of the service they set up for you. You are shown this during setup.
Service providers who help us run Scout (for example, hosting and the AI providers above) process data on our behalf under agreements that limit their use of it.
Aggregated agronomic data is only ever licensed with your explicit, per-deal consent — you are always asked first, and this is separate from using the product. [REDLINE: confirm alignment with the final data-use agreement.]
Your choices and rights
You stay in control of your data:
- Review and delete what Scout remembers about you, or pause and turn off memory, in Privacy & Data settings.
- Delete your account and the data Scout holds about you at any time.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete your data. [REDLINE: confirm which regional rights frameworks (e.g. CCPA, GDPR) apply and the exact request process.]
Data retention
Scout keeps your data while your account is active so it can advise you. When you delete your account, Scout's copy of your memory, fields, samples, and records is removed. [REDLINE: confirm retention periods and any backup/legal-hold exceptions.]
Children
Scout is a tool for farm businesses and is not directed to children. [REDLINE: confirm minimum-age wording.]
Changes to this notice
We will update this notice as Scout changes and will note when it was last updated. Continuing to use Scout after an update means the updated notice applies.
